Coaches’ Code of Conduct
All Baldivis Basketball Club coaches are required to carefully read and adhere to this ‘Code of Conduct’.
• All coaches are to hold a Working With Children Check , preferably prior to taking up a coaching role.
• Coaches shall place equal emphasis on development/winning/fun (especially in the younger age groups up to U14)remembering that young players participate for pleasure, and that winning is only part of the fun.
• Never ridicule or yell at a player for making a mistake, keep feedback positive and constructive
• Be reasonable on your players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
• Operate within the rules and spirit of our sport and teach your players that rules and Codes of Conduct are mutual agreements which no one involved should break.
• Ensure that the time your players spend with you is a positive experience. All players are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.
• Recognize that all players need and deserve court time.
• Lead by example in matters of team control, respect and professionalism to all involved with the sport (including opposition players, coaches, parents and spectators as well as referees and other officials) and encourage others to do the same.
• Be patient and respectful towards scorers, please consider that scorers might be new and in experienced with the scoring systems.
• Team managers should be on the bench for all games so that they can assist the coach wherever required. If the team manager is not available then a responsible person should be allocated to act in the team manager’s capacity for that game.
• At conclusion of your game please consider the needs of the teams playing on the court next and try to vacate the court / benches in prompt manner.
• Show concern and caution towards sick/injured players. Follow the advice of a physician when determining whether players are ready to resume.
• Make a personal commitment to keep up-to-date with the latest coaching techniques, and the principles of growth and development of young players.
• Enjoy and take pride in developing all players of different levels of ability and experience.
• Create a set of training and game rules for players, and be at all training sessions early to get organized.
• Ensure that your players and their parents (and other spectators) understand and fulfill their obligations under the club’s other codes of conduct.
• CLEARLY communicate with your players and their parents as to what you are trying to achieve with the team and the individual.
Will follow ALL reasonable requests by the committee, including but not limited to training facilities, uniforms, equipment and maintaining respectful communication towards all members at all times.
